Rays Probable Pitchers

Cole will pitch on short rest for the first time in his big league career, telling manager Aaron Boone, "Give me the ball." The ace fired 97 pitches in his Game 1 victory, permitting three runs on six hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out eight, allowing a pair of homers.

Glasnow will get the Game 5 start in the ALDS for the second consecutive season. In his Game 2 win, the right-hander allowed four runs and struck out 10 over five-plus innings. Glasnow has never made a start on short rest in his career.

Valdez will make his second career postseason start and third appearance overall. He pitched the final five innings of Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series, allowing no runs. Valdez started Game 2 of the ALDS vs. the A's, allowing two runs in seven innings.

Snell has gone at least five innings in each of his first two starts this postseason. In Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series, he held the Blue Jays scoreless; in Game 1 of the ALDS, he gave up four runs to the Yankees. All three of Snell's outings last postseason came against the Astros.

McCullers started Game 1 of the ALDS vs. the A's, allowing five runs (four earned) -- including three homers -- in four innings, and the Astros won. He’ll look to continue building on his strong finish to the regular season, when he had a 2.18 ERA across his final eight starts.

Morton will make his fourth postseason appearance with the Rays and second of this postseason. In his prior three postseason starts with Tampa Bay, Morton went 3-0 with a 1.20 ERA. One of those wins came in Game 3 of last year’s ALDS against the Astros. In that start, Morton allowed one run and struck out nine over five innings against his former team.

Yarbrough will be making his first postseason start. His only appearance so far this postseason came in ALDS Game 4 against the Yankees. He went five innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out one in a 5-1 loss.

Urquidy has worked 4 1/3 innings in both of his starts this postseason, throwing 76 pitches against the Twins in the AL Wild Card Series on Sept. 30 and 79 pitches against the A’s in the ALDS on Wednesday, when he gave up four solo homers.

Glasnow, who went 5-1 with a 4.08 ERA in the regular season, is 2-0 with a 4.05 ERA in three postseason starts this year. The right-hander has 20 strikeouts over 13 1/3 innings, and the Rays have won each of his last 11 starts.

Greinke is searching for his first victory in a postseason game since he started 2015 NLDS Game 2 with the Dodgers. He recovered from arm soreness to grit through 4 2/3 innings of four-run ball in ALDS Game 4 against the A's.
