Rendon fouls ball off knee, day to day

May 4th, 2021

Angels third baseman left Monday’s game against the Rays after fouling a pitch off his left kneecap in the bottom of the eighth inning at Angel Stadium.

After X-rays were taken, the Angels announced Rendon was diagnosed with a left knee contusion and he is listed as day to day.

Rendon, who homered in the sixth inning of the Angels' 7-3 loss to Tampa Bay, immediately went down once the ball made contact with his knee and had to be helped off the field.

Scott Schebler finshed the at-bat for Rendon and struck out. Albert Pujols started the ninth inning at third base, his 110th career appearance at the position and first since 2019.

The injury comes at an unfortunate time for the 30-year-old Rendon, whose bat was beginning to heat up. With Monday's homer, Rendon is on a five-game hitting streak, recording nine hits in 17 at-bats in that stretch.
