MIAMI -- The Marlins cleared space on the 40-man roster by outrighting five players to Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday: relievers Tyler Zuber, Zach Brzykcy and Wikelman González as well as catchers Brian Navarreto and Logan Driscoll.
Zuber, who underwent UCL repair with an internal brace of his right elbow on Oct. 12, will likely miss the entirety of the 2027 season. The 31-year-old posted a 5.67 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP in a career-high 44 outings in 2026. He was arbitration-eligible.
Brzykcy, 27, pitched just twice for the big league club in 2026, most recently on July 21. Miami had claimed him off waivers from Washington last November. González, 24, never pitched for the Marlins after being claimed from the White Sox on Aug. 10.
Although Miami selected the Minor League journeyman Navarreto’s contract for the second straight season on June 21, he served as one of rookie Joe Mack’s backups behind the dish after Liam Hicks was dealt to Tampa Bay at the Deadline. He went 7-for-52 with 21 strikeouts in 32 games. Miami acquired Driscoll, who turns 29 on Tuesday, from Tampa Bay for cash on Aug. 20, but he never got recalled.
These subtractions leave Mack and Agustín Ramírez as the only remaining backstops on the 40-man roster. Mack took over everyday duties when Ramírez, who was the club’s Opening Day starter, was demoted in early May. Ramírez could serve as Mack’s backup while also seeing time at designated hitter, both roles he fulfilled once he was recalled on Aug. 4. He was also practicing at first base toward the end of the season.
By clearing five 40-man roster spots, the Marlins would be able to reinstate their five players on the 60-day injured list should they choose to do so: left-handers Robby Snelling and Andrew Nardi as well as righties Ronny Henriquez, Adam Mazur and William Kempner. Henriquez is expected to be full-go for Spring Training, while Nardi and Kempner are likely to miss all of 2027. Mazur and Snelling have projected returns of April/May and May/June, respectively.
Come Nov. 17, the Marlins will also need to add eligible prospects to the 40-man roster ahead of the deadline in order to protect them from the Rule 5 Draft.
