Angels acquire INF Mike Moustakas from Colorado

ANAHEIM – The Angels today acquired INF Mike Moustakas from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for minor league RHP Connor Van Scoyoc. In a corresponding 40-man roster move, INF Kevin Padlo has been designated for assignment.

Moustakas, 34, is in his 13th Major League season and first with the Rockies. He is a three-time All-Star (2015, 2017 & 2019) and veteran of five postseasons, including a 2015 World Series Championship with Kansas City. In 1,362 career games, he has compiled 266 doubles, six triples, 207 home runs and 652 RBI during his time with the Royals (2011-18), Brewers (2018-19), Reds (2020-22) and Rockies (2023).

This season, Moustakas has hit .270 (31/115) with seven doubles, four home runs and 17 RBI in 47 games for Colorado. Over his last 21 games, he has batted .333 (17/51) with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. Additionally, he leads the Majors with six RBI as a pinch-hitter in 2023. Defensively, he has appeared in 24 games at first base and 12 games at third base, committing one error in 190 total chances.

Van Scoyoc, 23, has made 11 starts this season for High-A Tri-City, going 4-3 with a 2.76 ERA (62 IP – 19 ER) and 56 strikeouts. In four minor league seasons in the Angels organization, he has gone 17-13 with a 4.40 ERA (264 IP – 129 ER) and 297 strikeouts across 58 games (46 starts).
