Angels agree to one-year contract with Phil Nevin

ANAHEIM, CA – Today, the Angels announced the Club has agreed to terms on a one year contract with Phil Nevin to become the team’s Field Manager. The announcement was made by General Manager Perry Minasian. 

Nevin is set to return in 2023 after serving as the Club’s Interim Manager this season. The Southern California native began the 2022 campaign as the Club’s Third Base Coach before assuming the interim managerial role on June 7. He initially joined the Angels organization in Jan., 2022 following four seasons as the New York Yankees Third Base Coach. He made his Major League coaching debut in 2017 as the San Francisco Giants Third Base Coach.

A native of Fullerton, CA, Nevin spent seven seasons (2010-16) as a minor league manager in the Detroit Tigers (Double-A in 2010 and Triple-A in 2011-13) and Arizona Diamondbacks (Triple-A in 2014-16) organizations. 

Nevin played 12 Major League seasons with the Astros (1995), Tigers (1995-97), Angels (1998), Padres (1999-05), Rangers (2005-06), Cubs (2006) and Twins (2006). He was honored as a National League All-Star in 2001 with San Diego. He joins Jim Fregosi, Del Rice, Buck Rodgers and Moose Stubing as the only players to both play for and manage the Angels. Nevin was the first overall selection in the 1992 Draft out of Cal State Fullerton.
