In case you missed it, 2026's crop of Major League debuts has been unusually productive. Legendarily so, you might say. The rookies are making powerful first impressions, the likes of which we've never seen in the Modern Era.
They haven't stopped there.
On Tuesday night, Blue Jays third baseman Kazuma Okamoto stayed hot for the surging Blue Jays, hitting his 30th home run of the season in his club's 4-2 win over the A's.
Okamoto already held the franchise's rookie record for home runs; he is, therefore, the first Blue Jays rookie ever to put up a 30-homer season. But he's the third rookie overall to reach the 30-homer benchmark in 2026, after the Reds' Sal Stewart and the White Sox's Munetaka Murakami.
And that's another first. Coming into this season, there were 10 pairs of rookies with overlapping 30-homer campaigns, the most recent being Adolis García (31) and Ryan Mountcastle (33) in 2021. There had never been a trio -- that was, until Murakami, Okamoto and Stewart collectively had something to say about it.
As for a fourth, it's unlikely, but never say never. Carter Jensen has 22 homers and 16 games to hit eight more.
