150 Years of Cubs Baseball

The Chicago Cubs are one of baseball’s oldest and most storied franchises. Founded in 1869, the team became a charter member of the National League in 1876 and quickly emerged as an early baseball dynasty, winning six of the first 11 N.L. pennants and back-to-back World Series titles in 1907 and 1908.

Cubs fans have witnessed generations of unforgettable players – such as Joe Tinker, Gabby Hartnett, Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Ryne Sandberg, Derrek Lee and Anthony Rizzo, among many others – and iconic moments at Wrigley Field, the team’s home since 1916. In 2016, the Cubs delivered one of the most cherished moments in franchise history with a thrilling seven-game World Series victory over Cleveland, ending a 108-year championship drought.

Over 150 years in the National League, the Cubs have played more than 22,000 games, scored over 103,000 runs and recorded more than 200,000 hits — more than any other team in baseball history. Nearly 2,300 players have worn the Cubs uniform, contributing to 17 N.L. pennants, three World Series titles and countless memories for Cubs fans worldwide.
