During AAPI Heritage Month, fans are invited to Wrigley Field Monday, May 18, to celebrate the contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States with a dedicated theme game that includes special entertainment, music and other recognitions.
Before the Cubs take on the Brewers, kick off your gameday at Gallagher Way as the space is transformed to include:
- Traditional Chinese mahjong taught by Chicago-based experts at MixMix Mahjong.
- Small AAPI potted plants available for purchase from Qideas Plant Shop.
- An authentic Chinese Lion Dance performed by the Seven Star Lion Dance Group.
- A traditional Māori Haka presented by Haka Performers Chicago.
- A pregame set by Chicago native and AAPI performer DJ Clur.
- The opportunity to participate in Cranes for Peace, a collaborative origami peace initiative led by the Japanese Culture Center (JCC) and Osaka Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International (CSCI).
Fans can also indulge in a variety of Chicago-based AAPI food vendors at Gallagher Way including:
- Indonesian Padang by Rendang Republic
- Japanese cuisine from Bloop Bloop Sushi
- Hawaiian snacks, Filipino flavors and more from Kanin
- Thai Bubble tea from Cozy Noodles n' Rice
- Filipino baked goods from Del Sur Bakery & Café
- A special-edition Lychee Lemonade cocktail sold exclusively at Gallagher Way
The celebration continues inside the ballpark with ceremonial first pitches thrown out by Tee Cozy of Cozy Noodles n’ Rice and Japanese American actor Brian Tee. The national anthem will be sung by the Northwestern Treblemakers, an East Asian interest a cappella group.
To attend the celebration, fans are encouraged to purchase the AAPI Heritage Month Celebration Special Ticket Offer presented by House Foods which includes a special-edition Cubs heritage jersey. Jerseys will be offered in sizes M, XL and XXL, and available on a first-come, first-served basis. A portion of the proceeds from the Special Ticket Offer will be donated to Project: VISION.
