Injured Guerrero progressing, nearing return

Kendrick nursing groin injury; Turner close to game action

March 10th, 2016

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- New Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on Thursday morning before his club opened practice at Camelback Ranch that infielder Alex Guerrero (left knee contusion) is a little further ahead than his other wounded teammates, Howie Kendrick (groin) and Justin Turner (recovery from left knee surgery).
"I think we will see Alex first," said Roberts, when asked about the progression of the trio and the injuries.
Guerrero injured the knee sliding into the plate during a Cactus League game on Saturday.
"He's taking batting practice, taking grounders, but as far as our comfort level of him playing in a Major League game, we're not there yet," Roberts said.
Kendrick was on the disabled list from Aug. 9 to Sept. 18 with a left hamstring strain and wasn't able to shake the injury for the remainder of the 2015 season.
He re-signed with Dodgers on Feb. 4 for two years, $20 million and sustained the groin injury working out after he arrived in camp.
"We're really sensitive to that," Roberts said. "So yesterday he did everything as far as hitting, taking ground balls at second and third base. I've talked to him this morning and he said he's feeling much better. I'm kind of waiting on the training staff."
As far as Turner is concerned, he underwent microfracture surgery on the knee this past October and has been rehabbing the injury since then. He'll continue taking swings in Minor League camp until further notice.
"Again, I don't want to get overly excited, but he's progressing really nicely," Roberts said. "We're thinking about sometime next week getting him into a [big league] game as a DH. I'm not sure when, but he's doing really well."
