Lux tape outline? Cat fur cleats? Only in LA

LOS ANGELES -- If you believe there’s no room for fun on a baseball diamond, the Dodgers would like to show you otherwise.

On Thursday, that fun came in the form of a tape outline on the outfield wall and some feline-themed cleats.

A night after ran into the center-field wall and was removed from the Wednesday’s game with a neck stinger, the Dodgers poked fun at Lux’s scary play on Thursday.

If you looked out to the center-field wall at Dodger Stadium during their series finale against the Padres, you'd see a tape outline in the shape of Lux’s body put up across the State Farm logo where the 23-year-old was shaken up on the play. Starting outielders AJ Pollock, Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger each took turns touching the outline prior to the start of the game as a joke tribute to their teammate.

The outline came courtesy of Dodgers’ team video coordinator Chad Chop and clubhouse attendant Francisco “Chico” Herrera, who was the model for the outline.

“That'd be Chad Chop and that'd be Chico's body outline,” Lux told reporters on Thursday. “It's hilarious. And [Chop] was like, 'Can I do that?' I was like, 'I don't care.' It's a good way to make a joke about it. Now looking back at it, you can joke about it. So, it's funny.”

But the tape outline to remember Lux’s misfortune wasn’t the only character the Dodgers displayed on the field at Chavez Ravine.

Starter , a known cat lover who often sports cat-themed shirts around the Dodgers' clubhouse, took the hill on Thursday having found another way to represent his furry friends through fashion.

The righty sported white and blue Mizuno cleats that featured black and brown furry laces resembling cat hair on each foot and had a photo of a feline on his right heel.

Even through a tense division race for the National League West where every game, out and pitch are watched closely, the Dodgers are still managing to keep things loose on the field.
