Ryu moved to 60-day DL

MILWAUKEE -- In Monday's roster moves, the Dodgers recalled left-handed reliever Daniel Coulombe from Triple-A Oklahoma City, moved starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu to the 60-day disabled list and purchased pitcher Matt West from Toronto.

Manager Don Mattingly said Ryu, out since Spring Training with a left shoulder impingement, did not suffer a setback.

"Nothing's changed," Mattingly said.

Mattingly said the club never expected Ryu back before early June, although that timetable was never stated publicly. On Sunday, Mattingly said Ryu would make the trip with the Dodgers and throw to hitters later in the week. On Monday, he said Ryu stayed behind, and Mattingly assumes that Ryu will throw batting practice late this week to Yasiel Puig, who is also rehabbing in Los Angeles.

"I guess I misunderstood," Mattingly said. "Everybody is there that needs to be there."

The starting rotation has already suffered a season-ending injury to Brandon McCarthy, who underwent Tommy John surgery on Thursday. The latest replacement is Carlos Frias, who gets a second start Wednesday after throwing 5 1/3 scoreless innings Friday.

Coulombe takes the place on the 25-man roster of starting pitcher Scott Baker, who was designated for assignment Sunday night, and gives the Dodgers a fresh arm, as well as a fourth lefty in a nine-man bullpen coming off seven relief innings in Sunday's 13-inning win.

Coulombe had a 1.74 ERA in 10 1/3 innings with 16 strikeouts for Oklahoma City.

Baker had been scheduled to start Thursday, an assignment that probably will go to a callup from Oklahoma City. The most likely candidate is Joe Wieland, who is lined up to start Thursday for Oklahoma City.

West, a converted third baseman, had been pitching at Double-A and was designated for assignment by Toronto last week, along with first baseman Andy Wilkins, who the Dodgers purchased Sunday. West was then optioned to Double-A Tulsa by the Dodgers.
