Dodgers salute service with Veterans Day event

November 14th, 2019

Over 350 U.S. military service members and veterans came to Dodger Stadium on Monday for a special Veterans Day batting practice event hosted by the Dodgers.

The service members, veterans and their families got to take batting practice on the field, hit in the batting cage and join in on a Q&A with Dodgers second baseman and broadcaster Joe Davis.

"For me, just being able to be here and talk and interact with the veterans, it means a lot," Lux said. "It carries a lot of weight for me, having family in the military. Whatever I can do. They've made the ultimate sacrifice, and what they've done for me to be able to do what I love -- at the end of the day, that's way cooler than whatever we do on the baseball field. So I just wanted to thank them and show appreciation and support for everything they've done for our country."

The attendees -- who came from the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard -- and their families got to meet and take photos with Lux and Dodgers greats like Fernando Valenzuela and Ron Cey during the day's activities.

"It's a special day for them, but it's special for us with the Dodgers to be able to host them, and be able to feel like we're giving a little something back to people who have given so much to our country and so much to us to allow us to do what we do on an everyday basis," Davis said. "We're all so thankful. It's just been an incredible day to be able to share this space with them and hopefully give them a good experience."

The Dodgers also honor service members and veterans throughout the baseball season with initiatives like the Military Hero of the Game on the field before every home game.
