'City of Champions' LA on quest for 3-peat

October 29th, 2020

Cody Bellinger wants 2020 to be a three-way Los Angeles sports championship year.

Right after the Dodgers won the World Series, Bellinger got a text from Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff congratulating him on the championship.

Bellinger's reply to Goff? "It's your turn now."

Goff texted Bellinger back, "Absolutely," as he told the AP on Thursday.

The Dodgers defeated the Rays to clinch the World Series title just weeks after the Lakers defeated the Heat in the NBA Finals, giving Los Angeles a pair of major sports championships this year. The city's sports superstars, from Mookie Betts to LeBron James, are already renaming the City of Angels the City of Champions.

If the Rams can win the Super Bowl in February, LA would make it three rings in the same sports year.

"It'd be good to make that a little three-peat with us involved there," Goff told the AP. "It's definitely something that we're conscious of, absolutely."
