Teoscar Hernández stepped up to the plate to bat in the ninth inning in Monday’s series-opening win against the Reds.
The only problem? It wasn’t his turn to bat.
In a hilarious moment that went viral, Hernández, who was batting fifth, made his trot to home plate to lead off the top of the ninth inning in Cincinnati. The veteran made it all the way to the plate before realizing that it was actually Kyle Tucker’s turn to bat.
A shot towards the dugout showed Dodgers manager Dave Roberts colorfully asking what Hernández was doing.
Ironically enough, it was Hernández and Tucker who led the way for the Dodgers, who clinched their 14th straight playoff appearance with a win on Monday. Tucker hit his 15th home run of the season in his first plate appearance, while Hernández hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning. That was all the support Tarik Skubal needed in his seven scoreless innings.
