UCLA paid tribute to one of baseball's most influential stars on Saturday, unveiling a monument to Jackie Robinson at its Westwood campus.
The 42-inch bronze "42" statue is a nod to Robinson's jersey number with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson was a four-sport athlete at UCLA, starring in football, basketball, baseball and track from 1939 to 1941.
Robinson, the first African American to play in the Majors, spent 10 years in the big leagues, all with the Dodgers, from 1947 to 1956. He's also scheduled to receive a statue at Dodger Stadium later this year.
