Dodgers activate Tommy Kahnle

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers activated right-handed pitcher Tommy Kahnle from the 60-day injured list and designated right-handed pitcher Heath Hembree for assignment. 

Kahnle, 33, returns from the injured list after missing the last three months with right forearm inflammation. In four games for the Dodgers this season, he was 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA (3 ER/4.0 IP) and five strikeouts. He made seven rehab appearances for Triple-A Oklahoma City, allowing three runs in 7.0 innings with seven strikeouts. He has spent parts of eight seasons in the Major Leagues with Colorado (2014-2015), Chicago-AL (2016-17), New York-AL (2017-2020) and Los Angeles (2022), going a combined 9-9 with a 3.87 ERA (121 ER/281.2 IP) and 349 strikeouts in 289 career games. He was originally drafted by the New York Yankees in the fifth round of the 2010 First Year Player Draft out of Lynn University.

Hembree, 33, made six appearances for the Dodgers, allowing five runs in 5.2 innings with five strikeouts against three walks. On the season, he is a combined 3-1 with a 7.36 ERA (18 ER/22.0 IP) and 17 strikeouts in 26 games between Los Angeles and Pittsburgh. He has been in the Majors parts of 10 seasons with San Francisco (2013), Boston (2014-2020), Philadelphia (2020), Cincinnati (2021), New York-NL (2021), Pittsburgh (2022) and Los Angeles and he is a combined 21-13 with a 4.39 ERA (173 ER/354.2 IP) and 392 strikeouts in 357 games. He was originally drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the fifth round of the 2010 First Year Player Draft out of College of Charleston
