Dodgers recall Gus Varland

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled right-handed pitcher Gus Varland and designated right-handed pitcher Dinelson Lamet for assignment.

Varland, 28, joins the Dodgers for his second stint with the club after making the 26-man roster for the Seoul Series in Korea. He made one appearance, retiring the lone batter he faced. He is in his second Major League season, and he has a 6.53 ERA in 17 games with a 1-1 record. With Triple-A Oklahoma City, he allowed two runs in 3.2 innings with four strikeouts this season. In his Minor League career, he is a combined 10-13 with 230 strikeouts in 212.1 innings in 113 games (37 starts). He was originally drafted by the Oakland A’s in the 14th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of Concordia-St. Paul University.

Lamet, 31, pitched 1.1 innings yesterday, allowing one run on two hits. He recorded his first career save on Wednesday, retiring the side against the San Francisco Giants. He made three appearances with the Dodgers this season, allowing one earned run in 4.1 innings. The Santiago, Dominican Republic native is in his seventh Major League season after spending parts of the previous six years with San Diego (2017, 2019-2022), Colorado (2022-23), Boston (2023) and Los Angeles (2024) going a combined 17-24 with 474 strikeouts in 367.2 innings. He was originally signed by the Padres in June of 2014 as an international free agent.
