Was born in the state of Sonora, Mexico, the birthplace of baseball legend Fernando Valenzuela... Serna learned to play primarily from his grandfather, Manuel Arturo Serna, who was an amateur first baseman and pitcher in Mexíco. His father, Edgardo, is a pianist and singer who also encouraged his son to play baseball... When he was a kid, he used to swing a pole at a tire. “That strengthened my wrists, and the rest came natural,” Serna said, per a Baseball America article... Signed for a bonus of $10,000 by the Yankees in July 2019...Named to Team Mexico's roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
