The Amazin’ Mets Foundation proudly supports the New York Mets’ participation in Major League Baseball’s Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program - an initiative designed to expand access to baseball and softball in underrepresented communities. As part of this effort, the Foundation sponsors the Mets Nike RBI Team, furthering its commitment to youth development and equity in the sport.
The Mets Nike RBI Team features 18 talented local baseball players, ages 11 and 12, who wear official Mets uniforms and compete in tournaments across the tri-state area. The team is led by head coach Eric Mercado, a seasoned baseball instructor with over two decades of experience developing athletes for collegiate play, alongside assistant coaches Jonathan Pineiro and Sal Taormina.
The Mets Nike RBI Team is a key component of the broader Junior Mets Youth Baseball & Softball program, which provides year-round access to the sport through free educational clinics, baseball curriculum lessons, and equipment and ticket donations. The Amazin’ Mets Foundation partners with youth leagues and schools throughout the tri-state area to ensure that children of all backgrounds can participate and grow through the game of baseball.
Mets first baseman Pete Alonso serves as the team’s Nike RBI ambassador.
