Albert Pujols undergoes successful foot surgery
The Angels Monday announced first baseman Albert Pujols underwent a surgical procedure last week to repair the planter plate in his right foot. The surgery was performed by Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, North Carolina. Today's announcement was made by Angels General Manager Billy Eppler.
"The surgery, as expected, went very well," said Eppler. "Albert will continue rehabbing in the Kansas City area throughout the winter and is expected to resume full baseball activities in four-and-a-half months."
Pujols, 35, finished his 15th Major League season in 2015 recording a .244 average (147/602) with 40 HR and 95 RBI in 157 games played. One of three Angels selected to the American League All-Star team (Mike Trout & Hector Santiago), Pujols reached 40+ home runs for the seventh time in his career, and first as an Angel.
During the 2015 campaign, Pujols reached the 90-RBI mark for the 14th time during his career, becoming the fourth player all-time with at least 14 such campaigns, joining Hank Aaron (16 times), Babe Ruth (14) and Alex Rodriguez (14). He is the first player to do so in his first 15 seasons.
Pujols will enter his 16th Major League season with a career average of .312 (2666/8545) in 2,274 games, along with 560 home runs and 1,698 RBI.
