Angels claim lefty Raley off waivers from Twins
Southpaw Boshers designated for assignment to make room on 40-man roster
ANAHEIM -- The Angels claimed left-hander Brooks Raley off waivers from the Twins on Thursday, assigning him to Triple-A Salt Lake and designating lefty Buddy Boshers for assignment in order to make room on the 40-man roster.
Raley, 25, gives the Halos an additional left-handed option out of the bullpen, with Sean Burnett still recovering from August elbow surgery and Nick Maronde, who was optioned after Wednesday's game, posting a 5.68 ERA in 11 Major League appearances this year.
Raley, who posted a 7.04 ERA in 38 1/3 innings in the Majors from 2012-13, was a starter while spending the first five seasons of his pro career in the Cubs' system. He was then claimed off waivers by the Twins in February and mainly worked out of the bullpen for their Triple-A affiliate, posting a 3.68 ERA in eight games (one start).
The 6-foot-3 Texas native has compiled a 3.92 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP and a 2.11 strikeout-to-walk ratio throughout his Minor League career.
Boshers made 25 appearances out of the Angels' bullpen last year, with a 4.70 ERA, and he had a 6.23 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP in 11 appearances in Triple-A this year. The Halos have 10 days to place Boshers on waivers, trade him or release him.
