Pollock fractures hand after being hit by pitch

PHOENIX -- D-backs center fielder A.J. Pollock left Saturday's 5-0 loss to the Reds in the eighth inning with a fractured right hand after being hit by a pitch.

Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto hit Pollock with a 92-mph fastball. The play was initially ruled a foul ball, but after review the call was reversed and ruled a hit-by-pitch. Pollock left the game and was replaced by Nick Evans.

"It's frustrating," Pollock said. "Unfortunately, it's part of baseball. People have injuries. This one, there's not much else I could do. Guy ran one up and in and hit me in the hand."

After the game, D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said Pollock would go on the disabled list, but the length of time would be determined by whether or not Pollock needs surgery.

Gibson also said he was unsure who would be called up to take Pollock's place on the roster.

Pollock was on a hot streak before suffering the injury. He had gone 12-for-23 in his previous five games and was hitting .322 for the season.
