A's acquire Minors infielder Catricala from Mariners
CHICAGO -- The A's acquired Minor League third baseman Vinnie Catricala from the Mariners on Sunday in exchange for a player to be named or cash.
The 24-year-old Catricala, a native of Sacramento, was on Seattle's 40-man roster before being designated for assignment on June 2. He was batting .253 with three home runs and 21 RBIs in 48 games for Double-A Jackson. He moves into the A's Top 20 Prospects list at No. 16.
He is expected to report to Double-A Midland.
Catricala was selected by the Mariners in the 10th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. His best Minor League season came two years later, when he combined for 25 home runs and 106 RBIs in 133 games between Jackson and Class A High Desert.
