Vogt not concerned after exiting with cramps
Following ninth-inning exit, slugger plans to return to A's for opener at Boston
DETROIT -- Stephen Vogt was forced out of Thursday's 7-5 A's win over the Tigers at Comerica Park in the ninth inning with right leg cramps, but the catcher/first baseman doesn't believe the injury is a serious matter.
Vogt wouldn't rule out playing in Boston on Friday for the start of a three-game series against the Red Sox.
"Hopefully, it's just a one-day thing and I feel good in the morning," Vogt said after the A's fourth straight win. "I'm usually able to bounce back fairly quickly. It's one of those things I've dealt with, and it's frustrating, but it happens."
The first baseman played through the cramps for much of the game on a humid day in Detroit but was pulled in favor of Max Muncy after running for a foul pop with one out in the ninth, when "basically from my hip all the way down to my ankle was locked up in my right leg," he said.
A's manager Bob Melvin was unsure of Vogt's status for Friday.
"As severe as it looked, maybe he'll just be a little sore tomorrow," said Melvin. "Who knows? You can be pretty sore when you get it that extreme."
Vogt was 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored before his departure, exiting with a .308 average.
