A's designate RHP Trystan Magnuson for assignment

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Oakland A's designated right-handed pitcher Trystan Magnuson for assignment, the club announced today. The move was necessary to reduce their roster to 40 players after reinstating six players from the 60-day disabled list. In addition to Magnuson, the A's also reinstated left-handed pitchers Brett Anderson and Dallas Braden, right-handed pitchers Joey Devine and Evan Scribner and infielder Daric Barton from the 60-day DL.

Magnuson made his Major League debut with the A's in 2011 and had no decisions and a 6.14 ERA in nine relief appearances over three stints with Oakland. He allowed a season-high six runs May 19 against Minnesota during his first stay with the club but posted a 3.09 ERA in seven appearances over his final two stints. Magnuson was placed on the 15-day disabled list Aug. 18 with right shoulder tendinitis and missed the remainder of the season. He also went 4-2 with a 2.98 ERA and .210 opponents batting average in 30 relief appearances with Triple-A Sacramento. The 26-year-old right-hander was acquired by the A's following the 2010 season in the Rajai Davis trade with Toronto.
