A's open Cactus League slate on Feb. 23

OAKLAND -- The A's announced their 2013 Cactus League schedule on Friday, 100 days from the time pitchers and catchers are expected to report.

The defending American League West champions christen the spring campaign Feb. 23 against the Brewers at Phoenix Municipal Stadium, marking the earliest start for the A's since the franchise moved to Oakland in 1968.

That's six days after the club's first full-squad workout, with position players slated to report the day before on Feb. 16.

The A's will play a total of 32 contests in the desert, including 17 at home in Phoenix -- one of which will feature a World Baseball Classic opponent on March 5. They will also host the World Series champion and Bay Bridge rival Giants on March 1 and the NL Central Division champion Reds on March 18.

AL West rivals Los Angeles and Texas pay the A's a visit March 4 and March 14, respectively. Three days later, the Cubs will be in town for a St. Patrick's Day contest.

Oakland completes the preseason schedule by participating in its traditional three-game Bay Bridge Series against the Giants, spanning March 28-30. San Francisco will play host to the A's the first two nights, beginning at 7:15 p.m. PT, at AT&T Park, while the third contest will be played in Oakland at 1:05 p.m.

Travel packages and seasons tickets for A's Spring Training home games will be on sale Nov. 9 at oaklandathletics.com. Single tickets can also be purchased beginning Dec. 7, as well as by calling 877-493-2255. The box office at Phoenix Municipal Stadium will open Jan. 31 at 10 a.m.
