Astros acquire OF prospect to complete trade with Royals
Outfielder named as PTBNL in Bourgeois-Quintero trade with Kansas City
The Houston Astros have acquired outfielder D’Andre Toney from the Kansas City Royals as the player to be named later in the March 20th trade that sent Jason Bourgeois and Humberto Quintero to the Kansas City Royals. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow.
The 20-year-old Toney, who had been at the Royals Extended Spring Training this season, hit .340 (51x150) with 12 doubles, five triples, five home runs, 29 RBI and a .432 on-base percentage in 43 games last year with the AZL Royals of the Rookie-level Arizona League. The right-handed hitting outfielder was drafted by Kansas City in the 14th round of the June 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Gulf Coast Community College in Florida. Toney was previously drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 33rd round of the 2010 Draft but elected to attend junior college. Toney will report to the Astros minor league club in Greeneville.
The Astros also received LHP Kevin Chapman in the deal, who reported to Corpus Christi in April. Chapman has posted a 3-2 record with a 2.30 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 27.1 innings in 24 appearances for the Hooks this season and was named the club’s Pitcher of the Month in April.
