Astros DFA Dominguez to make room for Correa
HOUSTON -- The Astros have designated third baseman Matt Dominguez for assignment, removing him from the 40-man roster to make space for Carlos Correa, the team's top prospect, who will make his Major League debut Monday in Chicago.
Dominguez, the Astros' Opening Day third baseman in 2013 and '14 after coming over from the Marlins in the Carlos Lee trade, has spent all of this season at Triple-A Fresno after Houston traded for Luis Valbuena to start at third base. Dominguez was hitting .251 with four homers and 26 RBIs in 45 games for the Grizzlies.
The Astros have 10 days to trade Dominguez, assign him to a Minor League roster or release him.
Dominguez has hit .233 with 42 homers and 152 RBIs in 357 career Major League games, all but 17 of which have been with Houston. He made his Major League debut in 2011 for the Marlins, who took him with the No. 12 overall pick of the 2007 Draft.
