Astros prospect Hader leads combined no-no

Left-hander Josh Hader, the Astros' No. 15 prospect, combined with two relievers for a no-hitter on Tuesday as Class A Advanced Lancaster defeated Bakersfield, 1-0. It was the third no-hitter in JetHawks history and their second in as many years.

Hader began the game with six hitless innings before manager Rodney Linares turned the game over to his bullpen. Left-hander J.D. Osborne threw two innings and right-hander Daniel Minor pitched a perfect ninth to complete the no-hitter.

The JetHawks scored the lone run of the game in the second inning off right-hander Ben Lively, the Reds' No. 13 prospect. Danry Vasquez, the Astros' No. 20 prospect, hit a two-out double and was driven in three batters later by Jordan Scott.

Lively leads the California League with a 0.74 ERA, but Hader outdueled him Tuesday. The 20-year old struck out six batters and walked four, though much of his wildness was confined to the second inning when he issued three of his walks. After working out of that jam, Hader faced two batters over the minimum and didn't allow a runner to advance past second base the rest of the way.

Hader was a part of the package the Astros received from the Orioles in exchange for Bud Norris at the 2013 Trade Deadline. He has excelled in his new organization. In 60 innings between Class A Quad Cities and Lancaster, he has a 2.80 ERA and has struck out 61 batters and walked 27. This season, he leads the JetHawks in ERA (2.56) and strikeouts (45).
