Astros update on Carlos Correa
Fractured fibula to sideline shortstop through the 2014 season
HOUSTON - The Houston Astros announced today that minor league shortstop Carlos Correa has suffered a fractured right fibula, which will sideline him through the end of the 2014 season. Correa's fracture was surgically repaired today by Dr. Kevin Varner at Houston Methodist in Houston. Correa is expected to make a full recovery in time for the 2015 season. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow.
Correa injured his right ankle while sliding into third base safely on an RBI triple during Lancaster's game on Saturday night at Lake Elsinore. A California League All-Star, Correa hit .325 in 62 games for Lancaster with 16 doubles, six triples, six home runs and 57 RBI, the latter ranking fourth in the league. He was named yesterday to the Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game, which will be held during the Major League Baseball All-Star activities in Minnesota.
Correa is the top ranked prospect in the Astros system and is ranked as the No. 2 prospect in all of baseball by ESPN.com. MLB.com ranks him as the No. 7 prospect in baseball.
