Backstop Sanchez set for rehab assignment

NEW YORK -- Giants reserve catcher Hector Sanchez is expected to join the Fresno Grizzlies, San Francisco's Triple-A affiliate, for an injury rehabilitation assignment.

Sanchez, who worked out before the Giants' series finale Monday in New York, will likely join the Grizzlies for the conclusion of a two-game series against Salt Lake City on Tuesday in Fresno. After a scheduled off-day Wednesday, Fresno will travel to Tacoma for a five-day series starting Thursday.

Sanchez, 24, has performed increasing levels of baseball-related activities as he has shaken off the effects of a concussion that sent him to the DL on July 26. But, as Giants manager Bruce Bochy said, "He needs to go over there and get in playing shape."

Sanchez hit .196 with three homers and 28 RBIs in 66 games before being sidelined.
