Pearce out of lineup with stomach virus

Paredes starts at second in his place vs. Mets

NEW YORK -- Steve Pearce remained out of the lineup on Tuesday with a stomach virus that forced an early exit from Sunday's game.

"[I'm] just a little under the weather right now," Pearce said. "Just hope I'm at the very end of this thing, and hopefully I'll get out there and get an at-bat later on in the game and hopefully be better tomorrow. It's just a stomach virus. I'm just trying to get over it right now and do what I can."

Without Pearce, the Orioles started Jimmy Paredes at second base.

In other injury news, Matt Wieters caught six innings, and manager Buck Showalter said the next step is for him to play in back-to-back games.
