Blackmon, Wieters now have two things in common

BALTIMORE -- Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon has been reunited with Orioles catcher Matt Wieters in more ways than one.

In Friday night's 6-3 Rockies victory over the Orioles, Blackmon launched a loud home run that landed beyond Oriole Park at Camden Yards and onto Eutaw Street, something that has been accomplished just 73 times since the park opened in 1992.

Wieters, a teammate of Blackmon at Georgia Tech in 2007, is one of the players to hit one onto Eutaw. Each such homer is commemorated with a baseball-shaped plaque embedded into the walkway.

The two have worked out together some in the offseason but don't spend much time together these days because Wieters is married and has a child. But they talked during batting practice on Saturday.

"He said, 'Nice bomb,'" said Blackmon, who had an RBI groundout and scored a run in Saturday's 8-4 loss.

The homer was long and loud, but Blackmon threw up the stop sign when it was compared to something that happens in a video game.

"In the video game you can hit them off the [warehouse] building, on the other side of the street," he said, laughing.
