Lind to DL, prognosis good after visit to doctor

Non-displaced foot fracture expected to sideline Blue Jays first baseman 2-3 weeks

ST. PETERSBURG -- Blue Jays first baseman Adam Lind, who was placed on the disabled list Friday with a fractured first metatarsal in his right foot, is now expected to be able to return to the big league club in two-to-three weeks.

Lind was examined by Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, N.C., on Friday afternoon, where he was given the updated timeframe. Lind had originally been expected to miss six-to-eight weeks.

Lind will also be in a walking boot for the next five-to-seven days.

The injury was originally sustained when Lind fouled a ball off his foot during a series in Baltimore on June 14. He was diagnosed with a bone bruise and attempted to play through the pain before eventually undergoing an MRI.

"When he first had the CAT scan, they didn't see anything, and then he started feeling pretty good," manager John Gibbons said."[He] was productive for us in some limited roles, and then it started bothering him again."

Lind had said he got the MRI on the advice of his mother, though Gibbons said it had already been scheduled, as the team's training staff had started talking about doing it when Lind's foot started bothering him in Oakland.

Lind played in 17 games between when the injury first occurred and when he was sent to the DL.

"I don't think it's a big deal," Gibbons said. "I don't think it's a big issue. It's big league baseball, man. You play when you can play, and he was productive.

"The original CAT scan said there was no break in there. So what are you supposed to? when you get that, what are you supposed to do? 'We better get an MRI and do something?'"
