Prime Minister, LLWS squad drop by Centre
TORONTO -- Prime Minister Stephen Harper paid a special visit to Rogers Centre on Monday evening to speak with the team from British Columbia that recently represented Canada at the Little League World Series.
Harper had a brief message for the White Rock All-Stars, who were crowned the Canadian champions before advancing to the LLWS and then eventually losing to Missouri in a consolation game. Harper also stopped to sign autographs for fans who were watching batting practice on the field when his contingent walked by.
Blue Jays manager John Gibbons also stopped to visit the Little League team, which went 7-1 on the road to Williamsport, Pa. Canada lost its first two games at the World Series against Taipei and Mexico before moving into the consolation bracket vs. Missouri.
"I've seen him on TV and I know there's an election coming up," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said before showing off some of his infamous humor. "Seemed like a great guy, you know. I told him I love his politics. We're both probably outnumbered in town here, but I told him I love his politics."
The Blue Jays also recognized the Little League World Series team during the middle of the game. The team was put on the video screen in center field, which was met with a large ovation from the 46,643 fans in attendance.
