Blue Jays sign Jeff Mathis to extension

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have signed C JEFF MATHIS to a two-year, $3 million dollar (US$) contract for the 2013, 2014 seasons with a $1.5 million dollar club option for the 2015 season.  Affirming his commitment to the organization and the City of Toronto, Jeff has agreed to make a donation to the JAYS CARE FOUNDATION in support of their ongoing objectives.

MATHIS, 29, is batting .215 with nine doubles, six home runs and 19 RBI in 46 games with Toronto this year. In his 38 starts as the catcher this season, has committed just one error in 305 total chances.  In 472 career games, the 6-1, 185 lb. catcher, has recorded 57 doubles, 32 home runs and 158 RBI over eight seasons with the Angels (2005-2011) and Blue Jays (2012).
