Bone scan to determine Anderson's return timetable

OAKLAND -- Brett Anderson is scheduled for a bone scan Friday that could potentially indicate that he's ready to ditch the walking boot he's worn for more than a month.

The stress fracture in his right foot that placed Anderson on the disabled list in May hasn't healed as quickly as the A's would've hoped, but a positive result from the latest bone scan would allow for him to resume baseball- and weight-bearing activities.

His return is still likely to come around the end of August at the earliest, assuming there aren't any complications.

Anderson, 25, has been limited to 38 starts over the last three seasons, because of four stints on the disabled list. He's posted a 1-4 record and 6.21 ERA in six games, five of them starts, this season.
