Pedroia exits in 10th due to hand contusion
Initial tests negative; second baseman to undergo follow-up exam
BOSTON -- Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia exited Friday night's 3-2 win in the top of the 10th with a right hand contusion.
Initial tests came back negative, but Pedroia will undergo a follow-up exam on Saturday. The play that caused the injury happened in the top of the second inning.
"With Dustin, when he went to field the throw from A.J. [Pierzynski] on a stolen base of Myers, he landed on the right hand," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "It's a right-hand contusion. The fluoroscan is negative right now, but he'll go for further imaging in the morning."
Jonathan Herrera replaced Pedroia at second base to open the 10th.
Pedroia went 1-for-4 with a walk before coming out.
Already, the Red Sox have Mike Napoli, Shane Victorino and Will Middlebrooks on the disabled list.
Shortstop Stephen Drew, who recently re-signed with Boston, is finishing out his tuneup in the Minors and could be activated by Monday.
