Atlanta Braves and PNC Bank join together for Grow Up Great Children's community gardening event today
Event aims to teach preschoolers omportance of healthy eating and nutrition
ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves are teaming up with PNC Bank and community partners Sheltering Arms, Fernbank Museum of Natural History and Young Audiences Woodruff Arts Center for a community gardening event today at the City of Refuge's Eden Garden. The project will educate children, ages 3-5 years old, on the importance of healthy eating and nutrition by teaching them where and how food is cultivated and grown. The kids will plant and harvest fruits and vegetables in the Eden Organic Garden at the City of Refuge.
WHAT: The Atlanta Braves, PNC Bank, Sheltering Arms, Fernbank Museum and Young Audiences Woodruff Arts Center will lead a gardening event to teach preschoolers the importance of nutritional eating as well as several workshops to teach parents and children about proper nutrition and how to plant healthy foods. Atlanta Braves pitcher David Carpenter will join the event at 11:00 a.m. to meet and greet with the children.
WHO: Atlanta Braves General Manager Frank Wren, Pitcher David Carpenter and front office staff; PNC Bank employees; members of Sheltering Arms, Georgia's oldest nonprofit early childhood education program; Science Educators from Fernbank Museum of Natural History; actress, storyteller, teacher, writer and singer Holly Stevenson will represent Young Audiences Woodruff Arts Center; and 50 preschoolers and their parents from the City of Refuge.
