Braves to visit former home Milwaukee to start 2014
Club will return to Turner Field on April 8 for home opener against Mets
MIAMI -- Sixty years after introducing the city of Milwaukee to a young outfielder named Hank Aaron, the Braves will return to their former home to open the 2014 season.
When the Braves play the Brewers on March 31, it will mark the first time they have ever experienced an Opening Day as the visiting team in one of their former hometowns. After playing three games in Milwaukee, Atlanta will travel to Washington D.C. for the first of two early season matchups against the division-rival Nationals.
The Braves will welcome the Mets to Turner Field for their home opener on April 8. This will mark the start of a six-game homestand that will conclude with three more games against the Nationals.
Next year's schedule includes consecutive home-and-home series against the Red Sox. Boston will visit Atlanta for two games on May 26 and 27. The Braves will travel to Fenway Park to play on the following two days.
The Interleague portion of the schedule also includes at least one series against each American League West member. The Braves will play two series against the Mariners. They will host Seattle June 3 and 4 and then travel to Safeco Field for a two-game set that will begin on Aug. 6.
Beginning with the May 26 game against the Red Sox, the Braves will play seven straight home games against AL opponents. This stretch will include the visit from Seattle and conclude with a three-game set against the Angels on June 13-15.
Atlanta's other matchups against AL West opponents include trips to play the Astros (June 24-26) and the Rangers (Sept. 12-14). The A's will visit Turner Field Aug. 15-17 to conclude a 10-game homestand that will include visits from the Nationals and Dodgers. The Braves will be at home to celebrate three different national holidays next year. The Red Sox will be in town on Memorial Day and the D-backs will be at Turner Field on July 4. Labor Day will be celebrated on Sept. 1 with a visit from the Phillies.
Atlanta will end the first half of next year's schedule with a seven-game road trip that will pit it against the Mets and Cubs. Coming out of the All-Star break, the Braves will enjoy an 11-game homestand that will include visits from the Phillies, Marlins and Padres.
Before ending the 2014 season with a three-game series in Philadelphia (Sept. 26-28), the Braves will play 10 straight home games. The last regular-season game scheduled for Turner Field will be against the Pirates on Sept. 25.
