Brewers call up Herrera in place of Segura

MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers recalled utility player Elian Herrera from Triple-A Nashville to take the place of shortstop Jean Segura, who was placed on bereavement leave on Saturday following the sudden death of his nine-month-old son.

The right-handed hitting Herrera has been called up three other times this season by the Brewers, appearing in 37 games. With the Brewers, he's hitting .232 with no homers and two RBIs.

In 33 games with Nashville, Herrera was hitting .304 with no homers and nine RBIs.

In his previous stints with the Brewers, Herrera has primarily played in the outfield, starting three games in left, four in center and seven in right.

Herrera entered the game Saturday as a late-inning replacement at shortstop.
