Bid on epic Brewers items in charity auction
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The greatest collection of Brewers autographs ever amassed, a visit from former slugger Gorman Thomas and the racing sausages and a private lesson with hitting coach Darnell Coles are among the items up for bid in Major League Baseball's annual charity auction on MLB.com.
The initiative has raised nearly $500,000 since its inception four years ago and a significant portion of the proceeds from this year's event will go to Stand Up To Cancer, a longtime partner of Major League Baseball, its founding donor in 2008. In addition, this year's auction will benefit Do It For Durrett, in honor of the late Texas Rangers ESPN.com reporter Richard Durrett, who died suddenly last year, and the YouCaring page established for Miami Marlins Sun Sentinel beat writer Juan C. Rodriguez, who is battling a brain tumor.
There are three Brewers-related items up for bid:
• An autographed, framed baseball bat signed by 38 members of the inaugural class of the Brewers Wall of Honor, including Hall of Famers Hank Aaron, Robin Yount, Bob Uecker and Rollie Fingers. Only 100 of these bats were produced.
• A backyard barbecue or office visit from Brewers legends Gorman Thomas and Larry Hisle and the World Famous Klement's Racing Sausages. The visit will be for one hour, and includes Klement's Sausages for you to grill for your party of 25.
• An hour-long hitting clinic with Coles in the batting cages at Miller Park. The group of up to four will receive tickets to a game and will visit the field for batting practice.
