Counsell confident Broxton will rebound

MILWAUKEE -- Manager Craig Counsell on Tuesday expressed confidence in Brewers setup man Jonathan Broxton, a day after Broxton surrendered a run for the third consecutive outing and saw his ERA climb to 7.82 after 14 appearances this season.

"He's just in a little slump," Counsell said. "He'll get out of it and he'll be the guy we're used to seeing. Just a little downturn that everyone is going to go through. He'll work hard to fix it and be right back to where he needs to be."

Over his last three outings, Broxton has been charged with five earned runs on eight hits in two innings, including a four-hit, two-run eighth on Monday night that allowed the White Sox to briefly tie the score in what became a 10-7 Brewers win at Miller Park.

Broxton has surrendered 1.787 walks plus hits per inning pitched, up from 1.023 for the Reds and Brewers last season, when he posted a 2.30 ERA in 62 games.
