Brewers remember Seid in Draft room

MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers concluded their 2015 Draft with a tribute to late amateur scouting director Bruce Seid, who passed away suddenly last September.

Before reading the name of the team's final pick on Wednesday, Brewers manager of administration and amateur scouting Amanda Kropp said a few words about Seid, who was 53 when he died during a visit with family in Las Vegas. He was survived by his wife of 11 years, Erika.

"His memory lives on through all of the players who now represent him at Miller Park," Kropp said.

She then announced the team's 40th-round selection, Fordham University catcher Charles Galiano.

Seid had a presence in the Brewers' Draft room all week. General manager Doug Melvin hung a photo of Seid posing with the team's top three picks from last year's Draft, plus then-Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig, Hank Aaron and Melvin.

"I put the picture on the door so everyone saw it when they were coming and going," Melvin said. "We all talked about it early on, and said a year ago, he was here in this room. This game is about relationships with people."

Seid was particularly close with Brewers cross-checker Corey Rodriguez, a former roommate during their early days as area scouts. When Seid was elevated to a cross-checker position, he worked alongside Ray Montgomery, who was named Seid's replacement in December and ran the Brewers' Draft this year.

"His spirit was definitely a part of this," Montgomery said.
