Brewers sign 6th-round Draft pick Hanhold

PHILADELPHIA -- The Brewers signed two more Draft picks Wednesday, including sixth-rounder Eric Hanhold, and should have each of their first 13 selections formally under contract by the end of next week.

The only officially unsigned player in that group as of Wednesday was University of Virginia left-hander Nathan Kirby, the 55th overall pick who, like University of Florida-product Hanhold, pitched in the College World Series. Barring an unforeseen snag, Kirby, who threw the final pitch of the Cavaliers' championship-clinching victory over Vanderbilt, will get the red carpet treatment at Miller Park during a homestand that begins Monday.

Milwaukee also announced a deal with their final pick in the 2015 Draft, 40th-rounder Charles Galiano. The catcher from Fordham University was assigned to Helena.

The Brewers have already hosted a similar introduction for their other picks in the first three rounds: outfielder Trent Clark and pitchers Cody Ponce and Nash Walters. Ponce has already earned his first professional promotion, bumped from rookie Helena to Class A Wisconsin on Wednesday.

Hanhold, 21, was assigned to Helena. He was the final pick in the 2012 Draft out of high school -- No. 1,238 overall to the Phillies -- but went to Florida instead to boost his stock. Hanhold was 1-0 with a 4.26 ERA as a junior swingman for the Gators in 2015, making four starts and 10 relief appearances heading into the College World Series.

In other Draft-related news Wednesday:

• Dixie State University right-hander Evan Parker became the seventh undrafted player to ink a deal with Milwaukee. The Brewers assigned him to Rookie-level Arizona.

• Besides Ponce, who struck out four batters and walked none in the five innings of his first two professional starts, infielder Blake Allemand was also promoted from Helena to Wisconsin. Allemand, Milwaukee's fifth-round pick from Texas A&M, hit safely in each of his 11 games in the Pioneer League.
