Brewers tab Money as Draft representative

MILWAUKEE -- Don Money's new role in the Brewers' player development department will take him to Secaucus, N.J., on June 4 for the opening round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft.

Money, the former All-Star second baseman, will pair with Brewers manager of administration for player development Mark Mueller to represent the club at this year's Draft, and Money will get to announce one of the Brewers' picks.

After 14 years as a manager in Milwaukee's Minor League chain, Money is in his first season as a special instructor. He will be the batting coach this summer at Rookie-level Helena.

He's better known to Brewers fans for his 11 seasons on the field from 1973-83. Money was a four-time Brewers All-Star, the franchise's first player to start a Midsummer Classic in 1978. He was inducted into the Brewers' Walk of Fame at Miller Park in 2005.

The annual First-Year Player Draft takes place this year from June 4-6, beginning with the first round and Compensation Round A on Monday, June 4, at 6 p.m. CT. The first night of the event will be broadcast live on MLB Network and streamed live on MLB.com. Rounds 2-40 will also be streamed live on MLB.com on June 5-6.

Commissioner Bud Selig will announce all of the first-round selections, but club representatives will step to the podium to announce Compensation Round picks. Money will announce the 38th overall selection, part of the Brewers' compensation for losing Prince Fielder in free agency.

MLB.com's coverage, sponsored by CenturyLink, will include Draft Central, the Top 100 Draft Prospects list, Draft Tracker, a live interactive application that includes a searchable database of every Draft-eligible player, and Draft Caster.
