Matusz awaits results of suspension hearing

HOUSTON -- On Wednesday at Minute Maid Park, Orioles left-hander Brian Matusz attended a hearing in regard to the eight-game suspension he received from Major League Baseball on May 25 for having a foreign substance on his arm.

Matusz, who appealed the suspension, said the whole thing took about an hour. Dan Duquette, executive vice president of baseball operations, spoke on Matusz's behalf, and manager Buck Showalter was also there for moral support.

They weren't told when they would get the results of the hearing.

"I'm really not sure at all," Matusz said. "Not sure if Will Smith's case factors into the decision at all. Could be up to a couple days from now."

The Brewers' Smith was also ejected for a foreign substance; it was reported earlier this week that Smith would know his results before Sunday.

"This is the first time going through anything like this, I'm not really sure [if the suspension will be reduced]," Matusz said. "We presented our case, said everything we needed to. It's really out of our hands right now. Just waiting to hear that final decision."
