Rondon part of scuffle in Venezuela game

Tigers reliever Bruce Rondon was ejected Saturday night from a winter league game in Venezuela for his role in an on-field altercation.

In the seventh inning of a tied game between Rondon's Navegantes del Magallanes and Bravos de Margarita, Rondon hit Pittsburgh prospect Jose Osuna with a pitch. Moments later, the two exchanged heated words before Rondon charged at Osuna and took a few swings at him, inciting a brief benches-clearing brawl.

This isn't Rondon's first time running into on-the-field trouble. He was dismissed in September last season due to his "effort level," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said at the time.

Prior to being sent home, Rondon struggled on the mound in 2015, working his way back from Tommy John surgery. He posted a 5.81 ERA and had four blown saves through 31 innings of relief.

The 25-year-old right-hander was set to compete for a role in the Tigers' bullpen this spring. It remains to be seen whether Detroit will issue any punishment for this latest incident.
