Rodriguez, two relievers throw shutout for San Antonio

Right-hander Bryan Rodriguez and two relievers combined on a 10-hit shutout Wednesday night as Double-A San Antonio scored a 2-0, Texas League win at Corpus Christi.

Rodriguez (3-5 with a 4.43 earned run average) allowed six hits and a walk with two strikeouts in six innings. Right-hander Casey Kelly (3.60 ERA) allowed four hits with three strikeouts in two innings and right-hander Tayron Guerrero (3.60 ERA) struck out one in a perfect ninth to gain his third save.

Shortstop Trea Turner (.336) was 3-for-4 with a double and his fifth homer for the 17-22 Missions. Right fielder Hunter Renfroe (.230) was 2-for-3 with a double and a sacrifice fly. Center fielder Travis Jankowski (.342) was 1-for-5 and scored San Antonio's first run.

At Fort Wayne, 18-year-old shortstop Ruddy (pronounced Rudy) Giron was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored and is 9-for-13 in three games since being promoted from extended Spring Training to the Class A Midwest League.

Triple-A El Paso (20-19): The Chihuahuas were off Wednesday.

Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore (16-23): Visalia 3, Storm 1 -- Starting RHP Ronald Herrera (2-4, 4.03 ERA) allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk with two strikeouts in six innings. LHP Brandon Alger (0.00 ERA) allowed a hit and a walk with a strikeout in two scoreless innings. 3B Gabriel Quintana (.193) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. RF Yale Rosen (.206) was 1-for-2 with a RBI double.

Class A Fort Wayne (12-25): Lake County 4, TinCaps 3 -- Franchy Cordero (.216), who moved from shortstop to left field when Giron joined Fort Wayne, was 3-for-3 with his second homer, a two-run shot. Starting RHP T.J. Weitr (2-1, 5.54 ERA) allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings. RHP Bryan Verbitsky (3.24 ERA) allowed a hit and a walk with two strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings.
