Red-hot Beltran named NL Player of Week

Cardinals right fielder rapped six homers, had six-RBI game

For leading the National League in a host of offensive categories last week, Cardinals right fielder Carlos Beltran was named the league's Player of the Week on Monday.

Beltran led the NL with six home runs, 13 RBIs, eight runs scored, 30 total bases and a 1.200 slugging percentage while collecting hits in five of St. Louis' six games and homering in four of them.

It is his ninth career weekly award and sixth in the NL.

Beltran tied a career high on Friday with four hits (accomplished 22 previous times, the last on May 2) while hitting two home runs, a double and a triple and driving in four runs. His 13 total bases set a career best and were the most in a single game by a Major League switch-hitter since Chipper Jones accomplished the feat Aug. 14, 2006.

Beltran drove in all of the Cardinals' runs on Tuesday in a 6-1 victory against the D-backs for his fifth career six-RBI game and second of the season.

He is the first member of the Cardinals to have a six-RBI and a seven-RBI game in a single season since Albert Pujols in 2009.

Beltran leads the NL with 13 homers and is tied for the league lead with 32 RBIs.

Beltran's St. Louis teammates Rafael Furcal (.667 batting average, 14 hits, four runs, two stolen bases) and Allen Craig (.348 batting average, four homers, nine RBIs, five runs) were also recognized for their performances this week.
